Before demolition, work through these decisions.

What needs to improve? Is accessibility important? Is storage adequate? Is moisture currently a problem?

Toilet, sink, and shower or tub locations; door swing; walking space.

Tub, shower, combination, walk-in tub, or accessible shower.

Understand the proposed waterproofing system, not just the tile selection.

Determine whether the existing exhaust system is adequate.

Plan lighting, outlets, mirrors, ventilation, and heated floors if applicable.

Plan the vanity, medicine cabinet, linen storage, and shower storage.

Choose a material appropriate for bathroom moisture.

Confirm dimensions before construction.

If needed, consider entry width, grab-bar backing, shower entry, seating, control locations, and floor transitions.

Clarify scope, materials, allowances, schedule, payment, change orders, and cleanup.
