Why Does My Shower Grout Keep Cracking?

Cracked grout can result from movement, installation conditions, or changes where surfaces meet. Simply adding more grout may not solve a recurring crack.

Where is it cracking?

Pay attention to whether cracks appear between tiles, at corners, where walls meet floors, or around fixtures. Different locations can require different treatment.

Is tile moving?

Loose or moving tile suggests a larger issue than a cosmetic grout crack.

Is water getting behind the surface?

Cracked grout doesn't automatically mean the entire shower is leaking, but recurring cracks deserve attention. The waterproofing system should exist behind the visible tile assembly.

Don't keep patching a moving joint

If the same crack repeatedly returns, determine why the area is moving.
