Not every home problem requires an emergency service call. The important distinction is whether waiting creates a meaningful safety or damage risk.

Problems that may sometimes wait

Depending on the situation, a minor dripping faucet, cosmetic flooring damage, one nonessential appliance failure, a small stable concrete crack, or a minor door or trim issue may be reasonable to schedule normally.

Problems that deserve faster attention

Examples include uncontrolled water, sewage backup, an active electrical hazard, a burning smell, a gas odor, a dangerous garage-door failure, serious structural movement, and water near electrical equipment.

Use the safest interpretation when uncertain

If you're unsure whether a condition presents immediate danger, don't take unnecessary risks simply to avoid a service call.

Stop the damage when safe

Even if permanent repair can wait, you may be able to shut off water, stop using affected equipment, move belongings, or isolate an area when it is safe to do so.
