Pest Prevention Product Guide

Pest prevention products work best when they're matched to an actual problem. Don't buy a cart full of sprays before identifying the pest.

Exclusion products

Depending on the opening and the pest, prevention may involve door sweeps, screens, appropriate sealants, and other exclusion materials. Don't seal active wildlife inside a structure.

Storage

Sealed food-storage containers reduce access to food, particularly for pantry foods, pet food, bird seed, and other stored edibles.

Monitoring

Traps and monitors can sometimes show where pest activity is occurring. Use products according to their instructions.

Outdoor water management

Removing standing water can do more for mosquito prevention than another indoor product.

Pesticides

Use pesticides only according to the label. More product is not automatically more effective.
