Spring Home Maintenance Checklist

Spring is a good time to look for what winter left behind and prepare for heavier rain and warmer temperatures.

Exterior

From the ground, check roofing for visible damage, plus siding, gutters, downspouts, window trim, and exterior doors.

Drainage

Look at where water moves around the house, and make sure obvious drainage paths aren't blocked.

HVAC

Before cooling season, check the filter, keep the outdoor unit clear of debris, and make sure vents aren't blocked. Schedule professional service when appropriate for your system.

Plumbing

Look for outdoor faucet leaks, under-sink moisture, toilet leaks, and water-heater leakage.

Windows

Check screens, operation, visible caulk deterioration, and water staining.

Garage door

Observe the operation, and look for unusual noise, uneven movement, and damaged weather seals. Don't adjust springs or cables yourself.

Pest prevention

Check obvious exterior gaps and remove standing water.
