Not every concrete crack needs the same repair. Start with movement, location, and what the concrete is used for.
Small stable cracks
A narrow crack that isn't moving may be primarily a maintenance or appearance issue, though keeping water out can still be worthwhile depending on the situation.
Uneven cracks
If one side sits higher than the other, movement has occurred. That's more significant than a simple surface line.
Trip hazards
A crack or displaced slab that creates a walking hazard deserves attention even when the concrete otherwise looks fine.
Cracks near structures
Cracking associated with foundations, structural supports, or retaining walls deserves different consideration from a cosmetic driveway crack.
